Job Description

Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. The Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) is an executive role that offers the opportunity to shape the student experience at Germanna Community College which is one of Virginia’s most innovative and mission‑driven community colleges.

As the college’s Chief Student Services Officer, the VPSA provides strategic direction, visionary leadership, and operational excellence across a comprehensive portfolio that includes Strategic Enrollment Management, Marketing and Recruitment, Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, Student Development, Military & Veteran Services, Academic Support/ACE, Student Success, and Testing Services. The ideal candidate will be an innovative, forward‑thinking, data‑driven leader committed to strengthening student achievement, modernizing services, and enhancing the overall student experience.

A Strategic Leadership Opportunity

The VPSA will guide a highly collaborative, student‑centered division committed to expanding access, fostering a sense of belonging, and supporting student persistence and completion across a broad range of learner needs and backgrounds. This role calls for a leader who excels at transforming systems, designing modern and human‑centered student experiences, and driving measurable improvements across the entire student lifecycle.

Key Areas of Leadership

  • Strategic Enrollment Management: Lead SEM strategy, forecasting, goal setting, and coordinated execution that drives inquiry-to-enrollment conversion and sustained enrollment growth.
  • Student Experience Innovation: Champion service redesign, process modernization, and technology adoption to streamline onboarding, advising, registration, and support services.
  • Marketing & Recruitment: Direct integrated marketing and recruitment strategies aligned with program priorities, brand positioning, and regional workforce needs.
  • Student Development & Belonging: Ensure exceptional delivery of advising, counseling, accessibility services, student life and leadership, career & transfer services, Title IX, and student conduct.
  • Community & Educational Partnerships: Advance partnerships with K–12, universities, employers, and community organizations to expand pathways, support student needs, and strengthen post‑completion outcomes.
  • Compliance & Accreditation: Provide oversight for Title IX, ADA, FERPA, Clery, and accreditation requirements while maintaining high standards for institutional effectiveness.
  • Leadership & Resource Management: Develop high‑performing teams, cultivate a culture of innovation and accountability, and ensure strategic alignment of budgets and resources.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution in Higher Education/Student Affairs, Educational Leadership/Administration, Counseling, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible, senior‑level leadership experience in Student Affairs and/or Strategic Enrollment Management within a college or university setting (community college experience strongly preferred).
  • Documented experience leading initiatives that resulted in measurable improvements in enrollment, retention, student support, or completion outcomes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using data, analytics, and technology platforms (such as CRM/SIS systems, advising or scheduling tools, or student success systems) to inform decision‑making and guide operational improvements.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop multi‑unit teams, manage complex budgets, and align resources to strategic priorities.
  • Working knowledge of Title IX, ADA, FERPA, Clery, and related compliance requirements, supported by prior oversight responsibility or direct involvement.
  • Evidence of strong communication, collaboration, and administrative leadership skills that support institution‑wide partnership and service excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing innovative initiatives that strengthened student achievement, enhanced student well‑being, or improved the overall campus environment, supported by documented outcomes or measurable results.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience in a multi campus or highly complex institutional environment.
  • Experience with Guided Pathways, integrated advising, and schedule optimization.
  • Familiarity with solutions such as EAB Navigate, Ad Astra, PeopleSoft/SIS, Salesforce, or comparable platforms.
  • Demonstrated faculty collaboration experience, clear understanding of academic scheduling and enrollment partnership.
  • Success in grant development, philanthropy partnerships, or public private collaborations that advance student success.

Special Instructions to Applicants

Special Considerations: This position may require evening and weekend work to support events and activities. The employee may also be required to perform other duties as assigned.
