Job Description:
Reporting to the AVP of Institutional Advancement, the Director of Prospect Management is responsible for managing the prospect research program.
The Director of Prospect Management, in support of the President's prospect research and prospect management activities, provides crucial assistance to the President and the Institutional Advancement team by establishing and enforcing a "moves management" system, based upon comprehensive research that drives mutually-agreed upon cultivation and solicitation strategies for donors and prospects.
Prospect Research and Analysis
Identify, evaluate and recommend current and potential major gift prospects and assess their ability to financially support the University.
Provide research and analysis of biographical, philanthropic, professional and financial information of donors and prospects.
Prepare written profiles, rating memos, event bios and qualified lists to support the cultivation of individuals
Perform quantitative analysis to determine capacity ratings based on financial data to qualify prospects.
Track prospects and donors through monitoring daily news, online "alerts," and utilizing internal information.
Track important information on key prospects (such as news and insider stock holdings) and proactively provide this pertinent information to the appropriate relationship manager.
Identify donor's associates and acquaintances through relationship mapping to facilitate institutional involvement.
Prospect Operations
Coordinate all prospect research activities for Advancement.
Develop new systems to convert manual processes.
Implement the use of AI in the prospect research process to facilitate the efficient development of excellent research products
Enhance the understanding of prospect research by Advancement staff through effective communication and training.
Represent prospect research best practices at meetings and communicate research techniques and procedures.
Implement processes and procedures to enhance prospect research data collection and analysis in the CRM, Raiser's Edge
Prospect Strategy
Work in partnership with the AVP of Operations for Institutional Advancement to organize and coordinate Pipeline meetings ensuring front line fundraisers have robust, vetted portfolios.
Collaborate with front line fundraisers, and other staff during Pipeline meetings to develop cultivation and solicitation strategies and facilitate moves management.
Identify new prospects for major gifts initiatives through proactive research and present findings at strategy meetings. Make recommendations regarding potential major donors.
Budget Oversight and Reporting
Track and manage the prospect research portion of the Advancement budget. Manage and coordinate the evaluation, purchase, budget and renewal of research resources, publications and services.
Represent the prospect research arm of Advancement in the evaluation, recommendation and selection of future electronic screening vendors.
Research
Maintain expertise on research techniques and resources by attending conferences and participating in professional societies.
Act as a representative within professional research communities.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in related field.
Minimum of seven years in a research or research-related environment.
Previous development experience and/or a background in a non-profit or educational institution.
Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
Advanced computer hardware and software skills including MS Office Suite, office applications (email, voicemail, etc.).
Proficient at scheduling/organizing and presenting data.
Proven experience working with spreadsheet, databases, and business applications.
Advanced proficiency in Internet research is essential and other research sources.
Experience with information resources and publications, including fundraising databases.
Ability to supervise and train others. Exceptional communication, writing and editing abilities.
Strong research and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in locating and synthesizing material from multiple sources.
Ability to interpret, analyze and summarize complex biographical, business and financial data.
Preferred Qualifications*
Experience with iWave/Kindsight, Lexis-Nexis and other industry resources preferred.
Previous campaign experience preferred.
Experience with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge preferred
